higher voltage coil
how much would a higher voltage coil like a 50,000 volt and a good set of wires help over stock in the 2000-5500rpm range? would it be noticeable?
Ignition companies like to quote massive voltage numbers to impress their potential customers. In the real world, though, voltage is pretty close to meaningless. It only takes about 10,000-12,000 volts to jump the gap, even under heavy load. The REAL test is how LONG it can keep the spark lit. That takes AMPERAGE, not voltage!
Most cheap aftermarket "high voltage" coils have about 15% more amperage than a stock coil. Better for sure, but not the best. I like the MSD HEI coil for HEI ignitions. Voltage is not going to set a world record BUT it packs an amperage wollop about 40% over stock.
And don't go ga-ga over "high performance" ignition modules, either. They do exactly squat in my experience. A good quality stock replacement unit is all the module you'll ever need.
Anything more and you're better off just buing a complete ignition amplifier box setup for the money you will spend.
