ok i feel really dumb for asking this because i know so much about cars.....

but whats the difference between a longblock and a shortblock.

this is just one of those things ive always overlooked and never taken the time to understand the difference. ok thanks.

A short block usually consists of the block with the crank, rods, pistons, and cam bearings installed and ready to go, minus balancer and flywheel.
Long block is usually the above with heads.
There are different variations as some long blocks come with cam, intake, water pump, oil pan so you basically add the carb/TBI/TPI, ets.. and ignition and your ready to run. Again so I dont get hassled, there are alot of different configurations, but this is a basic of what to expect

IHI pretty much sumed it up. In a nut shell the short block is exactly what it sounds... everything but the heads and intake. A long block includes the heads and sometimes the intake.

alright thanks guys. i was thinkin it was some different type of block or sumtin...even though they didnt make a different one..
