Fan relays...where are they?
OK, after sifting through the archives for quite some time, the only definitive answer i have for the fan relays is that the priomary relay is on the DS firewalll, that was easy. Oh yeah...92 Z28
Now where is the secondary fan relay? There is another relay on the same bracket as the primary, is that it. If so, the wire colors seemed off. There is also another relay there in and down a little further, is that it, i can't really see the wires.
I really want to hook up a switch to both fans now before i have to sit in any real traffic.
Also, is there any disadvantage to tying the fans together (using a single switch on the relay triggers.) Is both fans on excessive, or should i wire them to 2 switches to save wear and tear. It's not really a big deal for me i guess, i was planning on putting some extra switches in the blank panel anyway in case i need 'em later, so worse comes to worse i could consolidate later if i needed the switch for something else.
thanks...ed

You can daisy chain the relays together if you find the second one. Unfortunately, I do not know where it is.

Both relays should be on the DS firewall. At least, that's how it is on my 91 and I'm assuming yours will be the same. The fuel pump relay should also be there on the same bracket. If you don't see all three relays there, then the previous owner probably detached one of the relays from the bracket and it's somewhere in the depths of your engine bay. So dig a little deeper. They both should be there.
And if it were me, I wouldn't wire both fans to the same switch. Seems like asking for trouble. For example, if something goes wrong with your wiring or switch, then you'd be in traffic with no fans. I'd actually leave the primary fan under the computer's control. That way if you leave the car running unattended for a few minutes and forget to manually turn on the fan, the computer will save it from overheating.

Just to finish out this thread, like vicious said, both relays are on the DS firewall. The one closest to teh fender is the primary fan, the one on the same bracket furthest from the wall is the secondary fan. The one in the middle is the fuel pump.
And i didn't disconnect any of the stock fan controls, i simply supplemented them with a switch to ground. So if i don't turn my switches on (i did end up using 2 seperate switches for the hell of it) my computer will still turn them on at some ungodly temperature, likewise, the AC can also still activate the sec. fan as well. However, if i turn my switches on, the relays are grounded through the switches and the fans will stay on no matter what.
