Vortec spring question??
Ok guys I need to get some heads for my car and I want to get the Vortecs but there was always to much work involved with them, But now my mom wunts to know what I want for Christmas so I am thinking of asking for an Edelbrock performer RPM vortec intake and then savein up for the heads myself. Now I know I need to get the guides clearenced so I talked to my machine shot guy and he said $35 bucks to do it so thats not bad, So then I just need to ge better valve springs. Now I have World S/R Heads now and they have a 1.250 valve spring and its fine with my cam so can I just take the Springs and retainters and locks off the world heads and put them on the Vortecs using the Vortec heads?? thanks guys you are the best

They'll work as long as he machines the head enough for the lift of the cam you're gonna use.
Are you sure you want to put used springs on the heads though?
There's nothing "wrong" with that idea, but for ~$55 you can get new springs w/ retainers... Part # VSA 3
I guess it's up to you though.

go with the pro topline vortec's
stock replacement heads, but screw in studs, and machined fore better springs, $463 for a pair. and i hear they flow a tad bit better, but that may be a myth.
and if you can afford it, go for the RPM air-gap vortec, i run one, and have no complaints.
heres a pair right now on ebay,

Well what I have now are world products s/r heads witch are the stock replacement head with 1.94/1.50 valves and 76cc chambers. The whole reason I am getting heads is because these heads have bad valve guides so I figure for around 600 bucks I mine as well just put some Vortecs on it and have a quick car to mess around with. I was thinking about buying some off ebay but thats to risky for me. I'd rather just get them from summit and not have to worry about anything. Ok so my springs will work fine and I just need to get the guides machined for 35 bucks, not bad. Thanks for all your help guys, I will let you know how it all turns out. Oh yea, I need self aligning rockers. What did these come on cause I don't feel lilke spending 50 bucks on them when i can get them for 10 from the junk yard. thanks
you can reuse your old springs but i wouldn't. you have no idea the condition they're in. you can buy a set of good springs from comp or lunati for less than 100 dollars. i'd buy new springs and trash the factory rotator and retainer if you have it. while i had the heads in the shop getting the guides milled i'd have the springs seats opened up to 1.5
