for people who removed their smog pumps

I was wondering will it make engine codes go on? Does it make a noticable difference? What other stuff can I remove when I take that out? Does everything run fine without it?

Just did My Buddies 86 Z28. its with Lg4, So This Wont really apply To a TPI or TBI car, but...

Remove the Pump, Diverter Valve, and all Related Tubing.

Remove EGR, Unplug EGR wiring, and All related Tubing.

REmove ECS, and all related Tubing.

removed PVC and all related Tubing.
( not sure how much this helps or hurts, but I didnt have the peices to Rig Up a strait through PCV)

Timed it to 12* BTDC

Differance? Night and Day.

Have Fun.

I really don't see any reason to remove any of that stuff, especially out there in California. The parasitic loos from the air pump is really low.

Bort.....
I'm not arguing with you here, but I'm having trouble believing that removing any of that stuff help any at all. The EGR removal with the timing advance can cause detonation, so keep a good ear on it! I think Vader recently replied to another thread where he talked about some of this stuff.

Removed it on 2 cars, no codes.

The real reason you should be doing it is because its a mess and makes it harder to change plugs with it on there. Taking it off for HP or weight is silly, there isnt enough of a difference to amount to anything significant.

I still dont buy the EGR stuff. I really need to get an EGT and test the 'theory' that an EGR actually works under load maintaining a set amount of HP output and decreases the combustion temps.
