upgrading the computer, can you do it?

Alright, a guy told me that its pretty much worthless to upgrade a TPI simply becuase the computer limits itself for performance. That i should goto a LT1 and there the possibilies are near endless. But yeah he told me that the computer was close to a texas instruments calculator(isn't a lie there). But that it was useless to upgrade the TPI. Should i really consider upgrading to a LT1 instead of a Votec TPI?

If not where can i find a computer that would completely change the current situation?

you already have it.

the ECM is extremely flexible... it can do almost anything you'll ever want in a FI system.. and then some. most of the code is on the PROM chip... and you can burn your own proms...

because most of the TPI computers are cracked pretty well now, theres a world of parts and stuff... i believe grumpy has a TPI computer running a 8 or 9 second car....

the question really comes down to, what do you want it to do?

from the sounds of it, it doesnt sound like you even have a specific problem...

now i wouldnt use a TPI style MANIFOLD, but the ECM itself is sound.
personally, id ditch the vortec heads in favor of some with a more conventional intake bolt pattern, and runn a stealth ram or a converted LT1 intake...

or you could keep the vortec heads and convert a LT4 intake to work...

well, i'd like to se the car continue to be a daily driver as it is my only car. But i'd like to be fast. I'm not talking 11 second car here but i'd like it to be fast. I like theTPI beucase i was wanting it to appear to be sotkc. But everyone has told me that it was pretty much a waste of time because the TPI sucks(put into a nutshell). But what are th duifferences between the stealth ram and the LT1 compared to the TPI. I mean what things will i gain, what things will i loose?

Next, what did you mean keep the vortec head and convert an LT4 manifold? How the hell can this be done. What kinda power would it put out cause i want some power, i love the LT1 and LT4 manifolds. I just do, how costly is it to convert the LT4? Give me the dirt.

the diff is, they flow air alot better... athough you lose the "tuned" part... so you'll notice a slight loss of low-midrange TQ.. but the top end more then makes up for it.
you'll gain power, and not lose much else then the stock look and your EGR... if you have visual inspections, you wont pass.

just like the LT1 intake aligns and bolts to conventional SBC heads, the LT4 intake aligns and bolts to a vortec intake....... or this is what im told...
ive read it and have seen pictures of it done online... but ive never looked for myself... its just a idea that popped in my head as i was making the post.

these guys (and im sure there are others) can sell you a modded LT1 intake to work with your car: http://www.lt1intake.com/
