March Pulleys
Hey fellows, Those of you with a March underdrive pulley setup, (Crank, Water Pump and Alternator) Have any of you ever had a problem with the crank pulley bolts coming loose? I used Loctite 262 on the threads when I assembled the pulleys and torqued them to spec and have had the crank pulley outer bolts come losse 3 times within a year's time. Could this be from the Dampner or crank vibration? Or what? Eager to hear from you guys on this one.

Na, never had that problem but then again my engine only has limited miles on it.
Are you using lock washers with the loctite? try clening out the threads in the balancer with gumout or what ever. If there's any oil, the loctite might not be sitting up right? Just some guesses.
...and yes certainly severe vibrations can cause the bolts to work out.
Outside of that you might try drilling the bolt heads & using saftey wire.

I will try that tomorrow morning. I'll blow the holes out with compressed air and maybe some brake cleaner followed by another blast of air the reapply the locktite or maybe go to the parts store and purchase some new bolts. It might have damaged something in my engine this time cause I did not catch it right away. I shall soon find out.
Thanks for the reply Ron.

One of my best friends works for March Performance Pullies here in Canton, Michigan . . . right off of Hix road between Ford and Warren if your from around here. He is the guy that does the CNC crap. He has told me many times to NEVER BUY MARCH PULLIES because the guy that drills the holes doesn't dril them right and they become off center causing the pully to "wobble" back and fourth. Star tit up and see if any of your pullies do that, if so send them back or throw them away.

Hey thanks for that info Sean. No I'm in California. I will check them out better in the morning. They seemed to be drilled properly but I will most definately check them as you suggested.

Update.
NNothing wrong with the March pulley. The drilling of holes and it's trueness was perfect. I did clean out the threads and used locktite 282 instead of 262 this time. My March pullies are made very nice. Maybe your friend's co-worker needs to be talked to if he is not doing the work right?

Mine are true also (all 4 of them), and wouldn't the CNC machine drill those out on the jig while in the process of creating the pulley(s)?
I hope that hold for you 'CALIROCZ28'...If not, then it's saftey wire time. I wounder if there's a deal like the metal plate with bending tabs for the camshaft to keep the bolts from coming lose?

Ron, I think it will stay tight this time. I cleaned the threads out really well and saturated the bolts with the loctite. I have the crank, waterpump and alternator March pullies. You said you had 4. What's the 4th one?

Power steering...
My setup uses a conventional routing with the March serpentine pulleys.
I even have a March alternator bracket which is also top notch quality.

Very nice Ron! I like the Yellow paint on the Motor. I suppose the exterior of your Vette is also Yellow? I had a '60 T-Bird Convertible that shade.

I'm glad you like! Cause I'm physically & financialy exhausted on that TA. I had to take a few months off this winter...
All I've been doing lately is buying tools, tools, and more tools.
The Vette, I just received the damn title after five years of payments
...However I still owe four freaking years on the old ladys Impala
Does it ever end?
BTW: You HAD a '60 T-Bird? niceeee. Did you sale her?

No I don;t think it ever ends. If it's not one thing it's another! Yes I sold the bird for about $10k to a collector in Bakersfield California. He had one T-Bird for every year they were made except one like mine. Beautiful collection. I also know a person that has a Vette collection one of every year 1954 to 2003. Must be nice huh. I would love to have his '54. It has a great history behind it. All of the Vettes have less than 1K on them and they are all kept in a temperature controlled Warehouse. He has 3 fulltime porters that care for his collection daily. His collection was recently (2 years ago) valued at 27 million dollars. That is with all his other Chevys as well. He is a Autodealership owner that is very well known in So. Cal. Makes me drool everytime I go see them.

How do you respond to that??? Truly unbelievable!
I can remember back in ’81 or so MTV had some contest where you won a Vette for every year to that point. …and I thought that was big…
I wonder what he would give for a ’53, ’92 (1million built badge), or that ‘83 prototype?
I’ll take the ’68 L88!!!!!!!!!!

That would be a good choice Ron, but when your standing in that warehouse with so many perfect beautiful automobiles you kind of go goofy. The best thing about the Corvettes is he took a Vette as a demo each year and never put more than 1k iles on them. Most of them have less than 00750 miles. He most certainly was thinking ahead. The '54 he has was used by Elvis Presley in a movie. A white '54 with red leather interior.
