What to build? ...got some questions.
OK, I'm not gonna ask for an encyclopedias worth of info here, and I'm only at the first step of this journey. I've decided I want to rebuild my L98...myself. I want to learn, and I want to say I did it.
I've seen it done, read about it, plan to read more, and I have some good friends
My concern is not getting the job done, but moreless, what to build. We can go over specific parts and combos all day, but I'm only concerned with the basics.
I'm not against any particular size, but 350,355, and 383 seem to be the most popular. A popular little comment I seam to keep hearing is that a 383 is a lot more expensive. Why? And is the 355 worth the 5 inches? I'm not against leaving it a 350, but I hate to "not" do anything to it, that I would regret. No need for some huge in-depth response, just looking for comments.
As for my performance goals: I don't really have any hard numbers, but I'm not looking for some high HP beast. The motor is old, and it seems like a good time to freshen the old motor, add some decent performance, and learn how to build a motor. Like I said, this is the first step. Also, does anyone know of some decent reading? I'm gonna show her all spring and summer, and won't be looking to do this till late next year, so I'm gonna read up!
Just curious what you guys think.
Thanks

a 355 is a 350 you bore it to clean up the wear not increase the displacement. build a 350 since this is your first engine. there's a lot of little things that can be over looked and on a 383 it's a lot more than on a 350. i'd start buying or locating tools now and be ready when the time comes. having the right tools is as much of the job as the parts. decide what you want to do and what you want to farm out.

Your also going to want to think about your fuel system. If you modify the engine and stick with the tpi your in for some difficult and time consuming tuning.
