SES Light...should I worry?
SES Light...should I worry?
I was driving home today on 95 and my SES light came on for maybe a minute, then went off. I was going like 75 the whole way home, so the engine, even in OD, was at like 2500-2750 RPMs the whole time. (1986 IROC, LG-4)
Checked the codes when I got home, got a code 45 (Rich O2 Sensor). Light hasn't come back on for a while.
The car always runs rough in the winter until it warms up, but this is the first time I've had an SES code like that. I just recently removed my AIR pump belt cuz the bearings in the pump were squealing...could that lack of air cause a rich reading? Doesn't smell rich, no black smoke or carbon or anything. Maybe I didn't let it warm up enough or something...anyway should I worry about this or do anything about it, or is it just pissed at me for driving it in cold weather without a smog pump?
Thanks
Mark

usually i'd say yes you should worry, but if all oyu got was a rich o2 code i ihink i'd watxh it and see if anything else developes. i had a pontiac once that would set a code when it idled for very long (can't remember what it was now) after a minute or so at speed the light went out and it never hurt preformance or milage.
