a/c delete

i have taken off the whole a/c system and replaced the heater box in the engine bay with one from a non a/c car. My heater controls seem odd. When i put the slider on vent, the air still comes out at the top of the dash where the defrost air comes out. The only way i can get the heat to come out the vents is to put the slider on the a/c side on max or normal setting. Is that a problem or is it normal because i removed the old a/c system?

sounds like a vacum problem I removed my A/C and did the same thing but my controls still work to blow air out the correct vents.
