Stock 5 Spd Shifter Question

Can I cut about 2-3" off the stock shifter and then re-thread it and put the shifter **** back on?? I wanna shorten the shifter, without having to buy a new shifter. For now.

This might sound stupid, but I thought I would ask to see what opinions I would get. Has anyone tried it??

don't see why not. is the stock shifter the same diameter in the area you'd want to cut it as the threaded part? if so it'd be easy enough to do.

It can be done and has. I did this to some of my "*****" friends rides, so they could say they have short throw shifters. Just buy a die of the same thread and go fot it.

Just to follow up, I cut an inch off the stock shifter. Its a little firmer, and snappier. It feels a lot better.
