Transmission: 700r-4 shift kit
temp. sensor

i just got done rebuilding my lg4 305 and now the temp. gauge dosent work where is the sensor located for the gauge? where is the fan relay and dose it need the temp. gauge sensor working to turn on the fan? any help appriciated.

The temperature sender is between the foremost and second cylinder (or thereabouts) on the driver side head, just below the exhaust manifold. I didn't realise the '86 had an electric fan (my '85 LG4 has the belt driven) but I don't believe the sender or the gauge need to be connected for the fan to work, as the fan switch is itself a kind of thermostatically controlled device which switches the fan on once it gets to a set temperature.

No, the fan is operated seperatly by a mechanical switch.

thanks guys and yes my 86 trans am has a electrical fan i didnt even know they came without them. im pretty sure my friends 85 SC has an electric fan but i could be wrong.
