Heads question
Does anyone know what the difference is between a stock head and a 23* head? What is the difference between a vortec head and a stock head? Is a stock head 18*? What exactly is the angle they are measuring? If anyone could shed some light on this I would appreciate it. Some gee whiz info I guess.

Stock Small block heads are "23degree heads".
The stock valve angle is 23 degrees.
The valves are angled 23 degrees from perpendicular
relative to the head's deck surface.
"18 degree heads" have the valves at an 18 degree angle.
Vortec heads are 23 degree heads too but have a raised
intake port. (about .200")
But...on.... "raised port heads" the intake port is raised
even further ( than vortecs)
Gee Wally !!

Ask and ye shall recieve.
Thanks F-BIRD'88. I appreciate the info. Do you know if there is any performance difference between 18* and 23*? I am assuming that this might make a difference in camshaft selection too. Right? Thanks again.
