Good investment?

I can get an 86 Trans am T-Top for $990.00, its has 234,xxx miles, original engine, but had an aamco re-built tranny put in 2,000 miles ago, new cat converter, The tranny has a 12 month / 12,000 mile warranty that would be transferable to me. Its silver...could use some paint but nothing I cant deal w/ out.

My 86 firebird got hit and is totalled but Im allowed to keep it, so I have an 86 firebird that is still perfect under the hood if anything goes wrong with the T/A.

Would this be a wise investment or just dumb, let me know what you would do.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me if you have the extra cash to spend.

Sounds like a good deal. Don't put too much faith in that Aamco Tranny. I would walk before I took a car to them. Lets just say my first experience with a tranny problem back when I was 19 cost me $900 for a TH350 from AAmco. I could have bought a race prepped one for less. Turns out my vacuum modulator rubber hose was melted.

86,

The car sounds like it is probably worth the price. Around here, anything that runs is worth $1K, regardless of condition.

If you get it, the '86 TPIs (if that's what it has) have some "quirks", but nothing you can't get used to. There would certainly be lots of help with whatever you encounter. The TPI is capable of a little more torque than the HO engine, so driving could be a little more fun. Fuel mileage is pretty respectable, and the probability of having the WS6 suspension is greater with the TA.

[*] Ok here is the particulars. would I be dumb to pass this up?[*] Its got the TPI and 140 mph Speedo, whats th chances of it being WS6?

No power Locks
Multiport fuel injection 305
Yes I have had leakage with the T-Tops
Top Speed is 140mph
Tire tread is good
Headlights work well
Fog lights need replacement bulbs
Trunk Pulldown was replaced in December 2000
The hood hydraulic struts work well
The trunk hydraulic work better in the summer as you probably know. But it did stay up when I replaced the pull down mechanism.

The battery was changed out March 1999 I have the receipt and warranty information from Walmart.
The thermostat was changed in March 1999 I have receipt.
Spark Plugs, wires rotor and cap were changed out Sept 2000, I have receipt for spark plugs
EGR valve, injector cleaning, cat convertor, fuel filter and O2 sensor changed out July 2000 I have receipt.
Alternator was changed out March 1999 I have receipt.
Tires replaced in January 2000 I have receipt
Radiator and Hoses replace January 2000 I have receipt
I also replaced the heater core in 1999 with a Pep Boys rebuilt core but I don't have ther receipt.
[*]I gotta keep this seller secret or I think someone else is gonna try to buy it
