I thin something is getting lost in the translation somewhere. But, the spring Comp will usually recommend in a SBC with one of their cams that's less than .500", is the 981. It's stock diameter and will fit into your stock spring pockets.

With that small of a cam, your stock push rods should be fine. New would of course be better, but there's no driving reason that requires you to change them.
