I wonder if it's worth it?
Well, I know that there was a difference between the TPI and TBI 305's, and I'm kinda partial to the TBI. I also know that there is a 35hp and 30tq difference due to a better cam, heads, and induction. My question is, would it be worth it to try and swap over to TPI from my current TBI setup?
I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33553 on ebay and if it went for a decent price I'd almost consider it worth it.
But from what I understand, the gains would be minimal unless I went to the TPI heads and a bigger cam. I have a better cam, but spending atleast $200 on a good set of stock TPI heads plus whatever it costs for the COMPLETE TPI setup, (the whole induction system, computer, harness, and fuel pump), which prolly won't be under $500. Not including gaskets and possiable machine work. Makes it all seem not worth it. Spend (ballparking it) $900 and gain maybe 40 hp/tq seems kinda not worth it to me....
What do you all think?

TPI over TBI...yup...
Stock TPI heads if you're buying it all from scratch? Nope...
Fine a '91-92 TPI Camaro harness...put a want ad in classified on very board you can find...should be had for around $100-150 in good shape.
You can actually get a TPI system cheaper by piecing it together sometimes, just make sure your know what casting # / part #'s you're looking for.
If it were me, I'd just buy a set of alum Vette L98 heads ( $300-500 in good shape if you hunt around, check the Vette forums ) or step up to a set of Pro Lightning iron head for about $800 complete.
If you can score the 305 TPI heads cheap go for it, they flow really well with some clean up / porting.
Personally I wouldn't pay more than $200-250 on a TPI setup :
- stock intake ( you need 87 later...unless u run the Vette heads )
- Throttle Body ( w/ sensors )
- Runners
- Dist cover
- Plenum
- Fuel Rail and injectors
