Vortec-headed may find this useful

Hi

I've been searching for information on Vortec engines; found this pictures at Sy-Ty website. It's 772 head presented, but I suspect it uses the same casting cores as V8 L31 heads. Thought it may be interesting for those who decided to "touch" intake ports (although it's considered as a job for proffesionals due to good production design). I don't have access to flow bench in my area, so I'll only work on exhaust ports.

Mike

I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable drawign parallels between the V-6 and V-8 heads, The ports might be similar, but there is a lot of information on L31 and LT1 heads available, and those are a lot more like what you are using.

I have a set of 4.3L "Vortec" heads in my basement right now- just like in the article. The ports sure look "vortecy" to me, but I agree- there are probably subtle differences between the V6 and V8 castings. I wouldn't assume the V8 heads have "meat" in the exactly the same spots as a V6 head. Quick observation- note the factory screw-in studs on the V6 heads. L-31 V8 heads use press-in studs.

The V6 Vortecs use a pedestal rocker assembly similiar to a LS1 but with a stud change, can be converted to a V8 stud/rocker assembly.

How could I miss these screw-in studs? Shame on me...
