Need help deciding on heads

I am looking into getting new heads, but need some advice. I don't have to pass emissions right now, but may have to in the future. I want a set of iron heads for a mild street engine. I was looking at the pro topline 180CC heads, but found out that the are not emissions legal because they don't have the egr provisions. Is there anyway to make them work, and if not are there any good alternative iron heads out their.

I may just go with them anyways and deal with emissions if it ever comes up in the future.

If I were to get some used L98 heads and port them myself, could I expect to reach my goal of a 300-350hp street engine. What would it take to install them on a pre-86 engine, and would there be any problems?

If you're talking about a 350 shortblock, then your goals are easily realized with ported L98 heads and a decent cam.

If emissions are a concern, keep your computer controlled carb. For an intake, get an '87-model-year application EGR/spreadbore intake (Edelbrock Performer p/n 3706). Or, just elongate the center two bolt holes on each side of an '86-early manifold.

I already have a performer intake manifold (p/n 3701) for pre-86 engines, so I will have to elongate the central two bolt holes. is there anything that I should watch out for when doing this?

I think I will just keep on saving and go with Trick flow heads like I originally was going to. I will try my hand at porting for fun on the 882 heads I will be pulling off.
