could i reuse the coolant when installing a thermo stat

i am installing a t stat and i noticed that i had to drain my coolant and i wanted to know if i could drain it into a bucket and then reuse it when i fill it back up again

yes but id run it through a screen or filter in case you dropped something in it

Changing a thermostat is an excellent excuse to clean and flush the cooling system. You might appreciate it later this summer.
