Pistons do not make power, they only survive it.

If you stay around 400hp or less, you should be able to get by with either cast or hyperutectic pistons.
With power adders and over 400hp it's generally expected to run forged.
For quality forged pistons, look at SRP, Ross, and JE

there are some others, but I'm tired.

Stock cranks and rods are ok to well over 500hp.

good luck

For the extra now, get the forged. Because we all know someday you may want tp spray it. Forged pistons will make it handle more go-go juice. Look at the Comp Xtreme line. The dual pattern, with higher exhaust lift will help you. I would say the XE268 would be great for your setup.

Happy building!

I thought he said he was gonna run a Comp 268???

Buy the casts, you'll be fine.

So your saying forged now wouldn't be worth the extra $100 or so? My point, do it right now so you don't regret later.

Buy the forged ones. For the small difference in the overall cost of the project, they are worth it. TRWs are fine.

There are at least 5 or 6 268° intake cams from Comp that I can think of right off the top of my head. The one you want is the XE268H, not the Magnum 268, any of the others.

You'll probably go faster with a 650 than a 750. I think the number you want is 4776. With a cam that small and stock heads like those you'll never produce meaningful power at a high enough RPM to need the bigger carb. Your peak HP (shift point) should be somewhere around 5600-5800; at that RPM, you'll only be flowing about 540-500 CFM at best.

What about exhaust? If this is a RS you need to replace it from the heads to the street.

to qualify what I said earlier..

forged pistons will cost much more than $100 over cast or hyper pistons... unless you run the TRW's which are marginally stronger and considered 'junk' in my book.

the last set of good forged pistons I looked at was over $800 per set.

I would never buy TRW's again... been through too many sets now.

I would trust cast pistons with a conservatively tuned NOS system.
