Vortec 305 heads

Are the 58cc chambered vortec heads any good? I hear rom one source that they're the same as the 64cc heads, chambers and valves aside. Then I hear that they are totally different and totally rubbish. I really want vortech heads on my 283 but don't want the compression drop I'll get with the 64cc chambers.

Thanks

You got it right. They are not as good as their big brother and should be left alone. If you want the advantage of the vortec heads I would have them milled .020 and go with a thinner head gasket. That is what most 305 TBIer's go with.
