HELP QUICKLY PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend and i replaced plugs, wires, cap and rotor all tongiht on a friends car. When we reassembled, teh car had a slight miss, so we checked timing, it is off a bit. So we decide to set timing. Well, we were fine tuning and we started looking. We knew 6 degrees BTDC. So we see it is supposed to be in drive at idle. Well, the next time we start it, it dies immediately. And now we can not keep it running without giving it throttle. It is an 88 Formula 305 TPI. Also, we think we have all the wires on the new cap correctly, but to make sure, we compared them to my 91, it would be the saem right?????? If not tell me. Any suggestions are welcome. There are no error codes, and we are getting some white smoke at times. This is bad. What did we do??? Also, the Haynes manual says something about disconnecting the electronic spark control, does this car have it?? If so, where, we cant find it????????

Thanks a ton

Yeah, you need to disconnect that before you try to set the timing. It's a small brown cable with a black stripe on it running along the passenger side of the car in the engine compartment. It's got a black plug on it that with a little effort can be used to disconnect the ESC. Do this with the engine off, and when you start it with the wire disconnected you should see the SES light come on. Then set the timing to 6* BTDC, turn the engine off, reconnect the wire, and it should run fine.

if the est has been unhooked before the harness may be hanging out of a loom, if not it's a single wire weather pack connector in a larger size loom near the blower motor or the ac/heater box. you need to set timing with the est disabled. good luck
