no emission laws!

Hello gang
Im enjoying my new found fun of shredding the local mustangs. I was under my ride changing oil when I noticed the exhaust is plain as day stock on my gta! I asked the local tool molestor what he thought about cutting off the cat. He said that the exhaust is tuned for the car at maximum hp from the factory, and said " those hillbilly dumba**es dont know what there doing when they think they get more hp from an unrestricted exhaust system" I thought about asking you gys here what you think about that.
I have no emission laws to worry about. loosing the converter would be a freebie. But would it hurt instead of help the performance?
all comments and or rippage is welcome.

That guy is so full of sh*t!! The ONLY reason the cat is there is for emissions!! The exhaust may be "tuned" for max HP on a STOCK vehicle!! Even then I still don't really believe that!! I took my cat off a long time ago and noticed better throttle response and my engine is stock!! Also, IF it causes a decrease in HP it's only gonna be a slight, un-noticeable difference!! B'sides I couldn't believe the difference in the overall sound of the exhaust with my flowmaster when I cut off the cat and welded in a straight pipe!!
