oxygen sensor won't thread

I got my old O2 sensor out, then when I tried to install my new one it won't thread for the life of me. Ok, maybe I got the wrong part? So I tried to thread my old sensor back in and it won't go in either. I've spent two hours trying to get a freakin O2 sensor back in the manifold and it's not threading. There's still threads in the bung, and they look pretty clean, so I didn't rip any threads out when I took the old one off.

Any suggestions?

Man, why do the easiest things have to turn into neverending ordeals? Like it's not a big enough PIA to get to already, with AIR tubes, brake lines, spark wires, steering, etc...

put your O2 sensor in the freezer and try running your car for a few minutes to get the headers/manifolds warm. this will expand the hole and contract the sensor, making it easier to fit.

I was actually thinking about getting the manifold hot... I'll have to try that. Thanks!
