change of oil?

Ok i have recently hit 200,000 miles. I am due for an oil change. Right now i am runnin 10w30 Valvoline High Mileage oil (dino oil). My question is what will help my engine out more...sticking with dino, synthetic blend, or pure synthetic. (money is not really a factor b/c an oil change is the best thing for a car). Also which oil filter will be best for the job. ( does synthetic oil need a special filter?) I have been running Fram but as i have been reading threads i found out its bad? The only stores around here are autozone, napa, pepboys, and advance autoparts. Whats the best filters i can get? thanx in advance. i love havin a high mileage car!

At 200,000 miles, I personally think any advantages you'd have seen with synthetic are long past. Isn't worth the money to put it into an engine that old. Stick with the dinosaur oil. 10W30 or some 20W50 if it burns any and you dont live in a very cold climate.

Only Fram filters I've run are their heavy duty ones, which look like theyre for trucks...and theyre like $7 a pop. I run Motorcraft normally, but that's a Ford thing. STP probably makes a good filter. Mobil & K&N make them too, but theyre too much IMO.

I run Valvoline MaxLife too. It's best for your car at this point. Synthetics MIGHT prevent aging, but they won't reverse aging. MaxLife really helps.

As for an oil filter, the regular AC Duraguard is rated one of the best filters on the market--better than "premium" filters and even better than AC Duraguard Silvers or Golds, which aren't actually made by AC Delco. But they're getting difficult to find at auto parts stores, so I get mine from my local dealer. They're more expensive than auto parts stores, but they're still less expensive than those "premium" filters.

If it doesn't burn oil I would fill it with a full synthetic and a WIX filter. Can't do any harm to help an old engine.

Hey, I forgot, you can do both. There's Synthetic MaxLife now. The only place I've seen it is Kragen, and it's only available in 5W30 and 10W30, which works for you. So there ya go.

Wix filters are good.
Napa has em. They're labeled Napa silver and Napa gold.
