Removed Air Pump

My air smog pump went out a while back and I was thinking one day hey why not remove it and shed some weight. So I did. The connectors that hooked up to it I just left unhooked and was wondering if this was O.K. The car seems to run fine but I've noticed that when running on the Interstate at 65-70 I can feel this "kick-in or out" like maybe it's the lock-up torque convertor. I don't notice any changes in the RPM when this happens but it has kind of a downshift feel. Should I hook the air pump back up? Is leaving this thing off hendering anything?

I know my EGR Valve is bad and I've already replaced the solenoid to my EGR but I'm waitng to install it when I receive my AFPR I ordered. Do you think that maybe this could be the cause or still think it's a leak?
