seized motor maby? help!

seized motor maby? help!

i just put my 350 in after sitting out in the shed for 3 months. i could turn the motor with my hands and now i cant turn it at all. i am trying to turn it so i can hook up my torque converter bolts. any suggestions?


ps i searched but nothing came up for my liking.....if u no of a post already jsut leave me the link

3 months in a shed shuoldn't seize an engnie.

Pick up a flywheel turning tool. it grabs on the teeth of the flexplate...kinda like a spanner wrench.

Could always bump the starter to verify it'll still turn.

we have one at work...ill see if i can use it. otherwise im left with the starter idea and for some reson i dont like that

I usually get one bolt in on the TC, and then take a long thick screwdriver and stick it in the mounting tang on the TC. This will give you the leverage you need to turn the motor. Go slow with it though to give the engine a chance to bleed off the compression. Use your judgement too, if it feels like the motor is mechanically locked, DONT keep pulling on it. That's only gonna break the tang or break whatever is locking the motor.

Also, is it a serpentine setup? It's possible that a bearing in an accessory siezed, and is holding the belt. If you are just trying to turn it by hand, I'd imagine that a v-belt could prevent you also.

its a v-belt set up and i have one bolt in already. i tried turning it with a screwdriver on one of the teeth on the flywheel.....i dont have any belts hooked up by the way

Axle/Gears: moser 9" 4.11
try turning the motor over by using the harmonic balancer bolt. might help if the plugs are out to reduce compression issues. otherwise the starter idea should work as well.

yea but isnt there a chance of the harmonic balancer bolt breaking if there is too much preesure or torque on the bolt?

You're exactly right; you can break or strip that bolt, or the crank itself, with just a normal non-locked-up motor.

Try the starter first. It will put more torque on the motor than you can. Make sure you have a good hot battery.

granted the bolt can strip or break but with the plugs out it shouldn't be too difficult to turn the motor over, but the starter idea should work also, i was just throwing out a suggestion
