car will only blow through defrost vents

my 82 trans am will only blow through the defrost vents... any sugguestions on how to fix that?

also, when i replaced my rear hatch shoks, the shoks i got didn't have the clips on them for the wires that run current to the rear defrost... anyone know a work around, or anything i can do for that?

Thanks

WAG you have a vacuum leak in the selector system for the hvac controls. no idea about the rear defroster. maybe get a gas strut from gm parts with the correct provisions on it.

the back hatch shocks should have come with the clips on it. u may have bought the wrong ones. i have the same problem with the front defroster. no matter where i put the selector for the vents it only comes out the defroster vents.

The HVAC controls are powered by vacuum. If it is not recieving the vacuum it needs it goes into the default setting, which is defrost. You need to make sure everything is hooked up and you don't have any vacuum leaks.

I have a similar problem, mine will blow out the vents normally, but when i shut the car off, the air will still blow, but it will automatically switch and blow out the defrost, and this is while the car is off. So I have to turn the heater off otherwise the air will blow till the battery dies...

But yeah, just my random problem and I do believe i have an HVAC issue...
