well it depends on teh cost
you are going to have to get a computer (assuming your carbd' car has it delteed) the wiring harness, and then the intake set up, along wiht a distrubuter
its basically a bolt on, but it just takes time
ecm
wiring harness
distributer
lower intake manifold
plenum
runners
fuel rails
throttle body
maf
injectors (19lbs for 305, 22lbs for 350+)
a few sensors
i am sure that i am forgeting a few small things, but that is the jist of it.
i just paid $125 for a complete system, so you just have to look around and wait for a good deal to come up. it came off a 87 roc
91-92 were speed density
85 had a crap ecm
just make sure whatever year you get yours off matches the wring harness and ecm you bought.
if you have everything for it, it is just plug and chug from there

Carb to TPI is a notouriously good example of something that will nickle and dime you to death.
Why do you want to go to TPI (im assuming youre talking about stock)?

I would do if if you are able. I did mine years ago and have never looked back. It's not cheap, the cost will be between $500-1000 depending on where you get bthe parts.
Here's a great link for shopping for TPI parts.
