KABOOOM

That's the sound my car makes after I turn it off. I'll shut it off and about 5 seconds later there is a loud boom near the back of my car. It sounds more like metal popping or a rock flying through the exhaust and slamming off it than an explosion. It did this once before about a month ago, then hadn't happened again since this last week and a half or so. Now, it does it almost every time after I turn it off, and it keeps getting louder. Any ideas on what's causing it?

Running rich and the muffler has unburnt fuel in it that ignites. You probably also have a burnt out muffler.

My muffler is only a about 2 years old. Do you really think it might be burnt out? You're probably right about the rich part.
