Yes there is fuel in the tank, to make sure I even disconnected the feed line to the pump.

Now the car fired once, but didn't start, and so instead of trying to force it, I checked the fuel. Nothing there when I disconnected the fuel line from the carb, bone dry!!!

It's an L69, so I have a mechanical fuel pump which worked fine before the swap.
When I put it in, it went easier than I thougth it would, slid right in and waited patiently while I put the first plate on, then I had to hold it up for a quick second and it stayed while I dropped the pump itself in.

So did I miss something, or has the engine just not turned over enough to pull the fuel through?

Should I pour a little in the carb directly?

What cam is it.??

Some cams don't have a fuel pump rod lobe.

How long did it crank?? It takes a couple of seconds for the fuel to get there.

It's the comp cam # 12-238-2 or XE262-H. Believe it or not, I had it running for probably a full 30 seconds on fuel I poured in the carb, and still nothing.

I removed the line at the carb again, and saw just a drop of fuel. So, being brave, I left it unhooked and had my helper crank it over. WHOA MAMA!! Suddenly I had fuel pressure, tons of it. Hooked it back up and it started like a champ.....

Break in is done, but have a few adjustments left to go.
