Fuel Pump Oil Pressure Switch -- Do all 3Gs have one??

I was reading the following:

https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/006592.html

Vader mentions this switch.

Is this switch on all 3rd Gens??

Mine doesn't have one and I'm wondering if it should.

All FI cars do, carb cars with mech pumps don't.

Ok RB, so could it be somewhere else on the block(I know there's not on mine, but just stabbing in the dark)? When I pulled my engine there wasn't one, and where Vader says it is located, I have a plug.

Should I get one (which brings up another thing--what wire hooks up to it? I had the wiring harness completely labeled and didn't have any wires that would go to the switch)?

Some of the later switches are for both the gage and the fuel pump, although Im not positive thirdgens used them. How many wires on your pressure switch?

MadMax, what I'm saying is that my car did not have the switch and I can't find a wire harness that would have gone to it (unless it was cut/torn/ripped off at a prior date by some of the mechanics that have worked on the car before I started doing all the maintenance work).

So would this really hurt the car, running without one? Does it shut the fuel off or something along that line if you lose oil pressure?

Oh, by the way, car is '89 L98.

Thanks,

Thats exactly what it does.

One of the engines I have was out of an 88. Its been a while, but I dont recall any pressure sensor up by the manifold, IIRC there was only one down by the oil filter, and it had 2 wires. Long black plastic thing. Cant remember what color wires tho.

Okay, I understand you now. My oil pressure gauge sending unit has 2 wires (by the oil filter mount). What you are saying is that one of these is for the switch.

Thanks for the help!

Sparks,

I haven't seen you around for a while. Yes, all L98s have the switch, but as Max indicates, some are incorporated into the single sensor. The function is the same regardless. If your fuel pump is running for more than two seconds after the engine starts, your switch is working. There should be a tan/white wire at that switch for the fuel pump circuit.
