fuel starvation?

I have a Walbro TPI pump in the tank that's not hooked up. I'm using a mechanical pump. I have a clear fuel filter between the pump and carb inlet and usually the filter is full of fuel, or at least up to the level of the outlet side but sometimes the filter will be empty and every now and then some fuel will squirt into it. I replaced the pump and it's still having this symptom intermittently. Could the TPI pump be causing a flow restriction? I've run it like this for two years now and this is the first time I've noticed the filter not filling all the way.

Personally, if I didn't have the in-tank pump operating, I'd get rid of it. You may have gotten by, but it is a restriction.

Im with five7. I have seen/heard of people who can run like that with no issues. But the people who run that and have issues seems to be more than those without. I would pull it at the earlies possible convenience.

yeah i agree .....our camaro when we changed from injection to carbed we ran just fine for a while then one day it was doin the same thing as yours ...it ended up bein the pick up screen connected to the tank was plugged because the factory in tank pump pulled alot more fuel pressure than the on the block type and the on the block pump couldnt pull enough fuel thru the old pick up in the tank......hope this helps ya ....

I know a guy running a holley blue pump. Hes pulling it through the stock pump and it does really well.

I am going to get the holley blue soon. I want to take the intank pump out but I don't have a carb pickup. I could get a carb pickup but its a PITA to take the tank out of 2 f bodies.

Don't quote me on this but I don't think you need to get a carb pickup. You could just take out the intank pump & braze on a pipe the same length as the pump in its place. I know someone who has done this & so far no problems.

You could just run a rubber or metal fuel line down and it would be fine. You couldn't have a strainer filter anymore. I'd say that would be ok long as you have a fuel filter before the fuel pump. I will probably end up doing that because I really don't want to go pull another tank out just for the carb pickup. I will probably run a 3/8'' metal line down as far as the stock pump goes down and then connect it with a rubber line. I'd say that should do the trick.
