fuel pump relay makes japping sound
i am trying to figure out why my fuel pump doesnt turn on and when i turn the key to the on postion, the fuel pump makes this buzzing and japping noise like when you touch two jumper cables together with juice hooked up to them. the car was in a flood and this may be the reason but how do i check to see if the relay is good.
Z28,
I never did find out just how high the water got. In your original post, you said the water was "up to the doors". Was this the bottom of the doors or the top of the doors?
If the entire interior was wet, you need to remove and dry out the ECM, Radio, relay panel (behind the ECM), Convenience Center (under the dash to the right of the driver's footwell), the HVAC blower, the ESC module, the distributor, the instrument cluster, the wiper motor, the antenna motor, and probably several other things I'm overlooking. The fuel pump relay is acting that way probably becauser the ECM is soaked and shorting on the logic side.
Most of the components in the ECM and other electroninc devices are sealed and waterproof, but the circuit cards and traces will conduct and short if there is residue left by the water, or droplets still in the unit.
Good luck.

vader, the water level reached just about to the bottom of the steering wheel. here is an upadate of my problems, i replaced the neutral start switch behind the clutch and got nothing, i replaced the fuel pump relay with no sucess. i am only getting 6 volts to the pump. i tapped into one of the wires going to the pump to get that. also, in my ALDL, i was going to test the fuel pump but i have no terminal G. it is a 91tpi. i only have ABCKM. whats up with that? i tried pulling the codes by jumping terminals A and B but when i put the ign. to on, the SES light just stays in. it doesnt blink at all. my oil pressure gauge doesnt work either. isnt the oil pressure switch and fuel pressure fuse the same thing? please help me here what do i check for next. how much does a stock prom cost
