Some suggestions and feed back on my 87 Iroc convertible project
Some suggestions and feed back on my 87 Iroc convertible project
Here is what I currently have. Ceramic coated Edelbrock headers, y-pipe, hi flow cat, Edelbrock cat-back exhaust, 1989 aluminum corvete heads with plans to have them ported and polished, Arizona-speed and marine runners, ported and polished intake manifold, ported and polished plenum, air foil, 52mm throttle body, everything gasket matched, K&N air filters, gutted air box.
The car is a 305 TPI with a 5 speed.
I could use some suggestions on the head work. Bigger valves?
I'm thinking 1.6 roller rockers and getting the 335 stroker kit. I know I shoud go with the 350, but I want to keep the matching numbers.
I don't ever race my car just want to be able to beat all these suped up honda's and new V6's that are coming out. Plus I just want a bad a$$ Iroc!!!

One wonders what's magical about matching #'s if all this other stuff is changed.
Suggestion: Take the original engine out with all the stuff that's being replaced, put it on a roller cradle, put it in the corner of the garage or storage space and cover it up.
Now, build the rest properly.
Dang, those souped up Hondas and V6's are putting out some respectable power these days. Just about requires cheating on our part.
Rebuilt, stout 350 short block. Use good rods and forged pistons. Shoot, while you're at it, get a forged crank.
Heads: 2.00" intake is about all that will do any good. Might as well stick with Manley Proflow 1.94/1.60 and get a good porting job done.
Tranny - even a good 305 will grenade a T-5. Put it under the cover with the 305. Go T-56.
Okay, better beef up that rear. Another topic altogether.
Finally, between that 52mm TB and the ported plenum, put in a spray plate.
See ya' later, Honda...

five7, shouldnt we look at other options before resort to spray? How about a blower. That will roast a honda.
But on a serious note, what good is matching numbers when you cant beat a honda. What is more important to you: matching numbers? or beating a honda?
Technically, if you do what five7 suggests and put the engine on a cradle and roll it to a corner, you still have the matching numbers. It may not be IN the car, but you do have the numbers to match.

For sure there are other options. Spray is as-needed only, that's all. Simple, inexpensive (relatively), near zero parasitic loses (just the weight of the system). Doesn't last forever, though.
Superchargers run all the time. Turbos are complicated. But, no refills needed.
Guess it's up to you how you want to cheat.
