How to hookup a TC lockup switch when not using the ECM?

Alright, here's the deal.. I have a 700-R4 with 3 different colored wires coming from it.. I have heard from different sources that I can either ground one out or supply +12v to another, blah blah blah, basically no one can give me a straight answer.. and I need to figure this out soon.
I have read replies in the archives talking about how to wire it through the brake switch, but I want to know if there's any way I can just hook a switch to one of the 3 wrires to control lockup, and I'll just remember to unlock it when I go to slow down? (I used to have to do this when it was connected through the ALDL.. but now that mod won't work, as the ECM is not hooked up anymore..) Or perhaps could someone explain how to wire it through the brake switch in more detail? I am completely confused..

Any info would be appreciated. I don't want to spend any money on a kit or anything if I don't have to..

(I posted this on the transmission board also..)

Unfortunately i cant help you...but i am very interested in this answer as well. Im trashing the ecm in my car as well and need to know an answer. I am getting a new torque converter...when buying a new converter can i buy one that will make it so i dont have to use a switch? I mean, hasnt there ever been a non ecm automatic car before?

have a tranny shop install a pressure switch in your tranny. Then you just supply 12v to the purple/black wire.

TCI lock-up kit includes the stuff you need. It's a pressure switch in the tranny and a vacuum switch under the hood. At low vacuum conditions the TC will unlock(engine under load). And it will only lock in 4th gear. 70 bucks for the kit.

There's gotta be a way I can do it temporarily without having a shop install anything, or having to buy anything..

How did the transmission lockup before, when I had a switch through the ALDL, when the ECM was hooked up, but I was using a non computer controlled carb and HEI? Did it just supply 12v to the purple wire, or..? I have also heard about a relay or something?

What you need is a wiring diagram of the plug connecter on the tranny. Then you could cut the wires and hook up a switch. I don't know which wire is hot and which one is grounded, but I do know that all you need is 12V and a ground to lock-up the TC. Surely somebody knows which wire is ground and which is 12V. Anybody?

update
the only info I've found so far is that pin A gets 12V, and pin D is grounded. Pull the plug out to see the pin letters.

The ECU used to look at engine speed and stuff like that... now that you don't have one, it doesn't know to lock up. If you install a switch, it will know then. Sorry, I cannot tell you which wires to what.

I am going with a vacuum switch from B&M or TCI or someone. A search will tell you which ones I chose in one of my previous messages that everyone suggested. It works on vacuum, so I won't have to remember a switch.

A great page for explaining things...

Here's my educated WAG. I think the ALDL switch will still work...here's why. The TCC solenoid gets power from the brake switch. Thereofre, it still has power. The TCC solenoid gets it ground from BOTH ALDL terminal F and the computer. ALDL has nothing to do with the 'puter, it's in parallel.
If you hacked the ALDL out for whatever reason you will need to find the tan/black (IIRC, check for yourself first) that used to run to F.
