losing pressure in cooling system

hi,

i made a pressure test with my cooling system because i think i have a leak somewhere and it lost 1,4 psi in 30 minutes.
is this ok or should i lose nothing at all?

a bit white smoke comes up after startup when i let it idle.

intake, head gaskets are new. i have these felpro .015" gaskets. i sprayed them with copper so they should be ok?

Nebu.

Not sure what you mean by 1,4 psi. Is that 14psi, or you did the test twice and got different results?

i had tested the cooling system with 21 psi and after 30 minutes there was only 19.6 psi left. so it has lost 1.4 psi

The system will lose that much just from the block cooling down a couple of degrees, or from the rubber in the hoses getting tired.

I think it's OK.

Why do you think you have a leak? Exactly what happens?

Kevin: most European countries use a comma in numbers where we use a decimal point, and vice-versa. At least they're not like the Brits and put the decimal point a half-space above the line.

i had tested it when the engine was cold. btw after 24h there were 4.5 psi left

yes, when i let it idle there comes white smoke out of my tailpipes. its not much, but its definately water. not oil or gas.

One of the components of normal exhaust gas is water.... gasoline molecules contain hydrogen atoms, which produce water when they burn.... so water out of the exhaust is quite normal.

It sounds to me like there's nothing wrong with your cooling system.

Oops, I deal with Belgian and German companies frequently and get the use of the comma as a decimal point...didn't catch that he was from Deutchland.

The rad pressure tester I rented from AutoZone had instructions indicating a much larger drop than what you saw, within 5 minutes, was acceptable. Don't recall the exact number but it was > 2psi.

And as RB said, you appear to have a healthy engine.
