tired of waiting
hey guys you all seem nice and cool so iv come to you for help..iv got an 89 rs camaro has a 350 stock carbureted motor 700r4 tranny.it originally came with a v6 but someone put the 350 in.it also had a manual tranny but they swaped it for the 700..ok when i first start in the morning starts pretty good and as long as its running its fine but when i shut it off it wont start back for like 4 or 5 hours when it cools.also my volts are way up to like 17 and as the motor get warm they drop a little and when the rpm go up the volts drop a little i keep breaking alt belts one after another but that may or may not be my pully on the crank.iv put several alts on with the same result.when i unhook my batt and hook it back up it seems to spark a little more than it should but if i touch it and unhook and touch it agin real fast about 3 times it quits sparking.iv had the interior pretty much all out looked at the fuel pump wires all the under hood lighting headlights starters all that iv checked but cant find a ground anywhere.it has a manual fuel pump.since i didnt build the car its driving me crazy cause im left in the dark about what someone messed up iv checked everything i can think of. im right now getting ready to put my heads and intake back on iv ground the valves and all new gaskets.i hav an edelbrock carb and the weiand intake had the heat cross over for a heat choke which was probly giving me some fuel boil problems but ill block thoes off and hope for the best .ohh yea i also hav a new 800 ca batt.any ideas would tremendously help..it was origanaly painted white think that has anything to do with it lol ..thanks alot guys for a killer 3rd gen sight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When it "doesn't start", exactly what does it do? Does it drank and crank and crank but never run, or will it not even crank at all?
Sounds like a real ...... ummmm, interesting swap, if I may be allowed to be politically correct just this once. Sounds like few if any of the parts they used are original for a 88 car. The belts are a good example.
If it slings belts, it's probably because the pulleys aren't lined up; which in turn is probably because they're a hodgepodge off of a bunch of different cars. I can't see it very well right now to be sure, it's a little too far from your monitor; but I'd bet that's the situation. Getting a COMPLETE pulley and bracket set off of a COMPLETE car would be a great place to start.
Your alt is probably not wired correctly.
Yeah those white cars are the worst for doing a swap in.... nothing from red or black cars ever fits right!!!

yea it just cranks the batt dead but im thinking its the heat crossover in the intake and the edelbrock(im a holley man) boiling the fuel and i just found about 4 exhaust valves not seating and kinda looks like the head gasket is blown between the 2 center cylinders on both sides.my pullys are lined up perfect but the cranke pully is kinda got a small dent in the outside lip and had a small burr sticking over that could have been nicking the belt at high speeds.it dosent throw belts it shreads them lol..seems like my alt is always under heavy load..the belt squeals when i first start but then it quits no matter how loose or tight.ohh yea when i first got it the dimmer switch was melted but it had kinda loose connection.both dim head lights were blown and the blue high beam indacatior was blown.but iv chased every head light wire and even put a whole cluster in.lights are ok so far now but my alt is just straining way too much.yea nothing was used over from the v6 motor its just like an old camaro now in a 3rd gen body..thanks for the help..ill take all i can get even let ya come help me reinstall the top end lol..
I agree with your voltage problem is with the alt wiring. That's the problem with picking up someone elses change over. My cars wiring was trashed and I just tore it all out and started over.
For your carb problem I can tell you from experienc (managed a checker auto store for 5yrs) I would constantly get the returns on the Edlebrock carbs becuz of this same problem- they will tend to leak into the intake after the car has been hot causing flooding.
