Just curious, i have a '91 RS TBI with stock 2.73 gears.

If i were to install a VSS switch and upshift valave, what would my car top out at? Of course my car would need new shocks, tires and brakes, plus a very long stretch of empty and flat road, ala I-5.

I know it would touch 188 mph at redline, but i doubt my car would redline in fourth. Or can it?

188? no. im thinking a little less what engine you got? 305 right?

 

305, i'm just going by the caluclator on the front page. I know i can't hit 188, but just stating that's where it redlines.

 

I used to have a 91RS 305tbi car(you can see a couple pictures on my webpage). Before i swapped the 2.73 rear for a 9bolt 3.27 i could get to 115mph no prob. So i have a feeling you'd be lucky to get to 135-145mph??
Does that sound right? Somebody else help out here.

I doubt a 305TBI could hit 145 considering thats about the top speed of a 350TPI. Remember it may take 20 horsepower to go from 100 to 120, but it may take 50hp to go from 140 to 160mph. Drag is an exponential function of speed.

I have an 87 LB9 auto IROC and my speedo is under reading for some reason (anyone have any ideas how to fix this?) but I have done an indicated 125mph and converted over to proper readings it's in the region of about 145/150mph. I could maybe get an extra 5mph but the car lacks power to accelerate it much in 4th as the gear is so high (2.77s at the back too).

Youre probably able to do about 125-130mph.

I'm not sure though.

Give me a damn break RMK. 150 in your 87?? I would say 130-135 tops if you gearing gives top end at hp peak. Anyhow, who tries to top out a 10 year old 190 hp car anyhow. It is just foolish.

I have a 82 Z 3spd Th-350 and I had my car up to 230km/h I think thats about 140mph I raced a mustang, thats what he said I was going, as well as a 89 TA my speedo only goes to 85 mph so dont know for sure. And my car was reving about 6500, its the second one in my sig

 

My 84 TA 305 carb 5 spd reached 235kms & still climbing befor running out of road!
