Just take out the fuel pump fuse, start it up until it dies, then replace the filter.
It's best done with the fuel tank fairly empty, and a catch pan handy even though you've relieved the pressure.

In the fuse panel. Left of the driver. Underneath the dash.

You'll need to start the car to relieve the pressure. you can unhook the battery and drain the fuel manually, but that's a lot of fuel to let drain out. If you can't find the fuse in the fuse box, try near the battery terminal mounted to the side of the engine bay(I'm sure I'm wrong, and that it wasn't like that for the older cars, but it's worth a shot)

Five7Kid,
That fuel pump fuse in the fuse panel that you are talking about does not apply to all of the 3rd gen cars. So it might not apply in his case. One of the best ways to relieve pressure in the system is to open the gas cap. some fuel will come out regardless because of the fuel trapped in the lines.
