Running with open headers

I just finished installing headers on my 90 Iroc (350 TPI, SD car). When I took it for a quick spin around the neighborhood with open headers my rpm's were a roller coaster and would not stay still at idle or at various speeds. My question is will running open headers cause your rpm's to go crazy or is there some sort of problem I need to address before I take it in to the exhaust shop?

Open headers should not be causing this. I bet you disconnected some stuff while putting them on and didn't put it back.

What headers? How "open"? Where's your O2 sensor?

Depending upon the answers to the above, it isn't too hard to imagine being open causing the problem.
