I visited Lincoln tech in Mahwah N.J. and I wasnt impressed. The best one out of the SUNY schools in N.Y. is Alfred State College. They are rated one of the best schools in the country and concentrate heavily on hands on experience. I visited this school and they have two shops one freshman and a senoir shop. The senoir shop is big numorous lifts and they have a machining room with an engine dyno and a transmission repair room with transmission dyno. Part of the program a student must be able to rebuild an engine and a transmission to pass the course. It costs about 10,000 a year to go here but out of the schools ive seen this one is impressive. If financial aid wont pay then you can take out a student loan which you dont start paying back for 6 months after leaving school and you have up to 20 years to pay it back.

My advice is don't go to Lincoln Tech. I have 3 or 4 friends that went there and they said it sucked. they said that they didn't learn that much and that it was a waste of money. this is just what i have heard not personal experience.

Alfred state college,That seems like sick $hit. Id probably be the biggest incompetent student there. 10,000 a year i dont know, id rather buy a used vette than go to college forget that. I know ur just giving some info but i dont think my intellectual standards are even close to the student of alfred state college. think ill just visit my local race track and stare at the professionals work on their car.

You could try getting a job in a shop and have someone teach you. If your under 24 job corp is another possibility they have mechanic programs.

Hey Boss.

They are saying Alfred State, not Alfred U. Don't get the 2 confused. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to go to a state college. You might want to look into SUNY Canton (www.canton.edu) they have a 1 year certificate auto program and also a 2 year associate's degree auto program there. Pretty easy to get accepted there, pretty cheap, etc. It's located way up here in the middle of nowhere though. Good Luck
