Too many.
Do it right and drop the tank. I know some will say, "Why, it doesn't hurt anything," but hacking up your car when it doesn't have to be to me is hurting something.

I wouldnt buy a car that someone cut a hole in just to remove the fuel pump... thats for sure. If you've done it on a 4th gen then do it the same way on a 3rd gen... They'll all basically the same back there. Have fun bringing down the value of your car

from personal experience on this board you should just use the SEARCH button because its not a good idea and all it does is get the thread closed and its not all that hard to just drop the tank and do it right the first time even if that means adding an external pump and taking out the pump in the tank and putting in a carbed pickup in the tank ...but if your using this for a race only car then i could understand your wanting to do it but if your driving it every day my question is WHY???
There are quite a few threads (long Ones too) on this mod. Seems to be the subject of some very heated discussions and strong opinions. I believe its a good mod, i've done it my self, I am not a hack!
Just do a search and you will see!

I did several searches and pulled up nothing. No intentions on resale for one. second its no where near stock so that value is out the door. 3rd how cars have you bought and pulled up the carpet in the rear to see if someone cut it for a pump install?

and dont do it like the pic shows....LMAO i found that on another one of these posts but the guy was just j/k and was getting ready to install a fuel cell which isnt a good idea in these cars either because of the open tank in the car idea you need to build a fire wall of some sorts to get it on the track and its not too easy to do to a hatchback car ya know

I thought the intent on that project was to reconstruct the floor area in the rear of the car so that it was basically flat. In other words, to eliminate the "hole". Not that hole that we're looking at the floor through, but the well in the rear of our cars. With a flat section of rear floor, the fuel cell was to fit underneath the floor, outside of the car. At least, that's the way I understood it....
For the record, as far as fuel pump swaps go, I'm for dropping the tank. I'm not aware of any place to see documentation on how to cut the access hole that you want, but agree that it should be quite similar to your 4th gens.

If you used an impact wrench it would take about the same amount of time as pulling your interior apart and cutting a whole and putting it together nice. Granted you might save yourself some time in 5-10 years. Drop the tank.

Here's the reference link for this highly recommended and worthwhile Camaro upgrade.
Third Generation F-Bodies > Tech Boards > Fabrication > Has anyone ever just cut out the metal in the hatch area to take the fuel pump out?

It's amazing how someone sitting at a keybored can make a determination about a person/car/event they know nothing about (this is not directed at anyone in particular) . I am surprised at the seemingly bitter opposition to doing what most manufacturers do. No one advocated a butcher job, i think early on some one posed about a flap cut out of there deck and siliconed back down. I did mine because i installed fuel injection and retrofitted a factory pickup. In the event of a problem i wanted to save the aggrevation. My car also had a fuel starvation problem with the carb pickup, and after 4000 bucks in mods for FI i didn't intend to drop the tank if i stil had the starvation problem. I do not have a large area to work in. I use a tight 1 car gararge with a driveway that is pitched about 25 degrees. I also do not have any help, not even 1 person in my house who can give me a hand. This makes laying on my back with crap falling on my face even less appealling. I do not have room to get to both sides of the car and i cannot wiggle large parts out from underneath. I have given up on working in the street because i do not like lying in filth, i don't want to get hit by another car and i care how the front of my house looks. Exactly how many more reasons do you need? In the event of a failure, or upgrade, or leak. i can stand upright, stay clean and save time.

The proper answer should have been, "yes, some people do and here's the links." There was no need for emotional hand-wringing and over-the-top name-calling by a select few. Jeez, it's as though one of their family was being tied to a post to be ravaged by the village mob.
Additionally, this thread should be in the Fabrication area -- not the Engine area...
Heh, human nature is a funny thing ... like watching three-year-olds at day care.
Someone needs to start a topic in the Flame Section titled: What do YOU think about cutting access panels in a 3rd Gen Camaro!
