effects of stock distributor with Non CC carb?
hey all,
I've had this '83 for a year or so now. I knew it had a holley carb put on it before I got it (it's the stock 305 I guess). It looks pretty bad under the hood. They just took the solenoids and stuff out of the stock carb and left them plugged in and lying on the intake (!). I noticed that I DON'T have a vacuum advance distributor. I'm planning on replacing it, or the carb with a stock one (or maybe I'll just build another engine
) but wonder what effect this has had on it's performance? It's not really a daily driver but it did get around 20 mpg on the highway. let me know what you think please
thanks
Clem

So you still have the CC distributor, I have heard this is severly bad for a car even worse than running a CC carb w/ a non CC distributor.

I wouldn't say its "bad" for the motor, but without a vaccum adv. distributer with the vac. carb, your not getting any advance in timing, which really hurts on the performance side, and on the efficiency side too. expect to feel quite a bit more power, along with better gas mileage by switching over to a vaccume dist. hope that helps a little bit...
