I don't think it's available separately; I believe you'll have to get a whole sending unit to get one of those.

Are you talking about the inlet fuel filter inside the carburator at the fuel inlet? If so, they are probably giving you funny looks and wrong answers because of the terminology used.

everyone needs to line up, so i can stooge smack everyone EXCEPT RB.

i did not use the wrong terminology.

im talking about a STRAINER IN THE GD TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!! looks like a black mesh tampon!!! it doesnt have fins, its not a gd fuel filter in the carb!........

those are all in carb style fuel filters. usually backed by a spring.

altho this could be considered a type of filter, it is not called "the in tank fuel tilter thinggie before the fuel pump" heh.

::::edit:::::

Can i please be a moderator. For the love of ***.

please....c'mon, i am more help than 90% of these moderators EXCEPT rb, ede, and vader.....

If you need to stooge smack anyone, it is yourself. Please read the post that you made. And to answer your question about the availability of it. Yes they are available seperately at autozone and advance auto parts and it does fit on the bottom of the fuel line on the sending unit in the tank for mechanical fuel pumps and on the bottom of the electric fuel pump for cars so equipped.

......once again, a smacking is in order...what i said and asked for was 100% correct, so why must i slap myself? for being fed up with people skiming through posts and not reading them entirely?

and No, the strainer nor o-ring is available seperatly, not here in SC at least. i sat there and went through their computer myself looking for the part by specific name, related parts, gasket kits. etc.

the strainer that goes on the actual metal line (not on the electric pump) is not available, however the electric pump strainer IS available.

the o-ring only comes with the fuel pump , and napa claims to be able to get it as a *specialty* item.

so ...did everyone get mad at me because i questioned the integrity of their intelligence OR lack of literacy? or...... *insert your nimble minded comment here"

conway isnt that far from me......i need to ride to the beach as it is. how about you find the gasket and strainer individually and hand them to me

I believe there is a miscommunications in terms here. From what i am reading, treeohfive needs the little piece that sits in the tank, on the end of the fuel pickup.

The part trickster is talking about is the fuel filter that gets installed in the feed line to the carburetor.

I may be wrong, but thats how i see things.

StekMan is correct, when I first posted on here I did think of the fuel inlet filter on the carburator and that is how I responded. After Treeohfive responded back, I did some more checking through NAPA, AutoZone, and Advance Auto Parts on the internet as well as on the phone. When I explained to them what I needed they responded back that they had it. That is why I posted as I did in my second post. To be sure they had what treeohfive wanted I made a special trip there to each store to verify it and carried a picture of it. They did not have exactly what he required as pictured. The fuel strainer that they referred to looked similar except that it sat on the tube at a 90 degree angle. The part number for it is FS 104 and it was made by MASTERS. The item circled in this picture is what I assume that you are talking about, correct me if I am wrong here

To Treeohfive, is this the part that you are looking for. If it is, they have them at Classic Industries for $9.95. The part number is G6980 and it is referred to as a Fuel Tank Gauge Float Filter.

thank you....like i said, i had been dealing with the communication barrier ALL day. on here, and 4 parts stores. got annoying.

now i need the o-ring between the assembly and the tank itself.

seems as though they only offer it WITH a new fuel pump.. heh..looks like im gonna be buying a fuel pump and taking it back real soon.....missing an o ring

What stores did you talk to about the o-ring? I was able to just buy the o-ring from autozone by itself. That is providing you are talking about the o-ring that goes under the sending unit at the tank. Of course that was dealing with my local autozone store where I do business a good bit. I don't know how yours is.

the actual real o-ring between the assembly lid and the tank.

not the fuel pump dammpener/o-ring.

what i am refering to is the large o ring.

i checked auto zones site to see if they had it, they dont.

The large one between the tank and sending unit is the one I was referring to. I can call mine tomorrow and ask if they have any in stock.

Not another one I hope. No offense but people were trying to help. It would have been much clearer if you had said 'in the tank' in your first post.

This may be one of those things that you have to actually bring the part in and hold it in front of their face while asking to see the list catalog. The parts places are notorious for their intellectual prerequisites for employment.

the gasket, you can get individually, GM part...8 dollars...well worth the 8 dollars if you ask me...it has the nice metal lining in between rubber, has the 3 stock style tabs.....the o-rings they give you with stock style pumps suck...they are slightly too large...nometal tabs...not form fitting......if Anyone by chance needs the part # just for reference i can get it.
