Help! I broke some coolant sensor

As I was taking off my old exhaust manifold on the passenger side I broke the connection to a sensor. I took the sensor out and let all the coolant out. The sensor is in the middle of the block(or the head, not sure) underneath the exhaust manifold. There is a pin that goes into the sensor, I think it is the coolant temperature sensor. The pin goes into the sensor but it will not stay in. Does anyone know what sensor this is and how I can fix it? I really need some help I did a search and couldn't really get a clear answer. Info on my car is in my signature.

Really need to know if it's in the head or block. The head has the fan switch, block is the knock sensor. Does it have about the same size body as threads (switch), or is the body a lot fatter than the threads (knock sensor)?

Either way, from the current condition you describe, replace it. Since you've already removed it, take it with you to the parts store.

my guess is the switch for the fan, you'd really have to try to get to the knock senser. the fan switch is in the head, as you've been told.
