Comp 981's and valvetrain noise

Ive got a rattle/clicking noise coming from the Valvetrain With my recently installed Comp 981 springs and comp XE262H cam.

I have gone through twice and adjusted For Lash, and it dosent seem to go away. Is this to be expected then with the springs ?

Thanks.

Almost any aftermarket cam moves all the parts around in there considerably more aggressively than stock. They also move everything farther. As a result, expect more valvetrain noise. That series, again due to its very fast ramps and high lift compared to others of similar durations, is even more prone to making noise than most.

As long as it seems fairly even, that is no individual units making more noise than others, it's probably OK.

Did you replace the rockers and retainers? They can also make noise; anything that already has a wear pattern in it will not necessarily align perfectly with everything else around it after it's been disturbed, so you end up with things like springs that wipe across little grooves in the retainers which makes a noise, rocker tips with a "step" at the ends of the old wear pattern that now fall off the valve tip as they wipe across, etc.

thanks Rb.

No, I did Not replace the retainers, locks or Rockers. Ran out of $$

I will probrably Go in and Do them soon, as its a pretty easy jobber, but For now If the noise isnt hurting anything I can live with it, thanks.

Bort,

I noticed the same thing with mine. Of course I did the same cam swap as you did, and I did change the retainers. I checked the valve lash several times, and still get the same little tap.

I took a broom stick and ran it across each valve cover while holding it to my ear to see if I could fine a valve that was louder than the others, but they were all the same.
