New Motor. Have A Timing Question
New Motor. Have A Timing Question
I just got my new motor running last night. Here's the setup:
355 forged internals, 10:1 CR, ported and polished L-98 heads, Holley stealth ram, 24 lb LT1 injectors, LT4 HOTCAM, Edelbrock headers, Walbro 255 lph fuel pump.
I need to know what some people with the HOTCAM are running for BASE timing also if anyone with a HSR and an adj. Fuel reg., what pressure you running?

Depends on what chip you're running- stock or aftermarket. It also depends on the engine combination- every engine wants something a little different.
If you're running the stock chip I'd start with the timing at it's stock 6* setting and then bump it up about 2* at a time to see if it wants any more. Probably somewhere between the stock setting an 12* you'll find the optimum.
Fuel pressure with the stock chip I'd run it at stock pressure for now and then play around with it 2 PSI at a time up and down and see what it likes. Stock pressure is about 42 PSI. Given that you have slightly larger injectors than stock, in theory you don't want to run quite as much pressure as stock or it'll be running richer across the board.
Of course, if you're running a stock chip the tuning won't be right anyway. This is just to get you "in the ballpark" and running reasonably well so you can drive the car around.
