Is this a bargain?

I came across an '88 IROC TPI 5.7, AT, power everthing including seat, mirrors, etc. It has every option I have ever seen. Dents in RF fender, fair to poor repaint in black (originally burgandy), oil leaks, seat covers over ripped buckets, chrome plated stock wheels (IROC 16"'s) baldish tires. Runs out good. High miles, rebuilt motor w/no paperwork. $2500. Seems like alot of car for price but might be cheaper to by same car in cherry low mile condition for 3X as much? What do you think? Maybe could part out for more than $2500 and I could keep some parts for mine (disc brake rear, etc.) Thanks!

I got my 82 off of a car lot cuz it wouldnt pass emmissions for $400. I just made an offer and they took it, I saw on the paperwork they bought it for $500. Its all in how much work you want to do. Mine needs paint, an engine rebuild, and interior work. But for $400, and power everything, i figured what the heck. $2500 does sound pretty good as long as you are willing to put some time into some rebuilding.

Take it. If it's mechanically sound, this could be a good kill. Try and get him for $2000. Either way it's a steal. As long as its mechanically good, have a mechanic verify. You can have the paint redone and the fender fixed for $1000 max through MAACO. Sand and prime it yourself. and when they're done go buy a few cans of clear coat and do that yourself. Black should be the best color to paint it, lower defect rate.

About the interior. This is your chance to buy a good set of 4th gen seats. They run about $400 (for powerseats, leather, mint cond., both front and rear) from a junkyard. Plus there are a few places that sell them for similar prices. Go to the Body Board.

Wheels from a junkyard, (try to get '91 or '92 16 inch wheels) shouldn't be too expensive either. And the oil leak isn't too big a problem.

You could have an awesome car for $4000

I'd bet if its a fully loaded ROC, it might have the alum drive/space saver tire. However I'm also guessing 9 bolt 2:77 rear.
I think at $2000 you'd be hard pressed to part it and make any money. Especially if the interior is trashed.

Thanks for the replies. Only the front seats are trashed, the rest of the interior is nice with the exception of speakers in door panles but it is a nice job. It doesn't need new wheels as the chrome IROC's look real sharp, didn't mean for that to sound like a negative. Sounds like we think alike as I already offered $2K and left my phone number if they change their mind and will take it.

I got a call last night. The guy said he would take $2K. So I now own my 2nd 3rd Generation Camaro! I will do a very good analysis of the car and decide if I part out, clean up and sell or keep. E-mail me if you are interested in any major parts in case I part.
