loud ticking at start up
have very recent issue of loud ticking that seems to go away after car 'warms up' I switched to 10 w30 for summer, could that be a factor? I have never heard lifter noise or valve noise but that is what i think it might be... what and how would i check and what would cause it, car is 89 L98 with 140K....

my car does the same thing..it's either a lifter or a rocker arm that's just a little too loose. use a stethescope and poke around the valve cover and see if you can hear it any better. i'm almost 100% sure that's what you problem is.

Just readjust your valves. I f you don't know how, do a search. It is quite easy with the engine running. 30 minutes from start to finish, depending on how quick you can get your valve covers off.
